When the 3×3 Women’s Series basketball event came to Best Western Chatuchak Hotel in Bangkok, the organiser needed a venue that could hold a regulation court, spectators, technical equipment, and tournament branding in one place.
Liri Tent Thailand installed a 35m Geodesic Dome Tent for the event. The dome covered the competition area and gave the site the feel of an indoor arena, while remaining a temporary structure.

Clear Space for the Court
The court was placed in the centre of the dome, with scoreboards, branded boards, player areas, cameras, and seating arranged around it. As there are no centre poles inside the structure, nothing interrupted the court or blocked the audience’s view.
This open layout also made the site easier to run. Event staff had space for lighting, sound, scoring, media work, and guest circulation without crowding the playing area. Spectators were close to the court, which suited the fast pace of 3×3 basketball.
The Dome Becomes Part of the Event Design
The triangular frame of the geodesic dome was clearly visible from inside. Instead of being hidden, it became part of the venue’s look. The white roof cover kept the interior bright during the day, while event lighting added colour and focus around the court.
Purple lights, LED screens, tournament flags, and courtside branding worked naturally with the curved space. The result was not a standard tented court, but a recognisable event setting for players, guests, and cameras.
Room for More Than the Game
A basketball tournament needs more than a playing surface. It also needs space for referees, staff, production teams, spectators, sponsors, and equipment. The 35m dome gave the organiser enough room to separate these functions while keeping the court as the main focus.
Temporary bleachers and chairs were installed around the venue. Lighting towers, audio equipment, technical desks, and branded panels were positioned where they could support the event without affecting movement inside the arena.
Flexible for Sports and Commercial Events
This project shows how a Geodesic Dome Tent can be used when a site does not have a permanent indoor arena. It can create a covered, organised space for basketball, exhibitions, concerts, product launches, and brand events.
For hotels and urban event venues, the structure makes it possible to use outdoor space in a more practical way.
The GDT35m dome at Best Western Chatuchak Hotel provided a clear example: a temporary structure can still give a sports event its own identity, usable space, and a proper home for the competition.
